    Welcome to MaritimeMTG

Welcome to maritimemtg.com! While we are using this to advertise the inaugural 2012 Maritime MTG Tour, we are hoping to use this as a hub for tournaments/information all over the maritimes, regardless of who is running them!

July 28th - Moncton, New Brunswick
August 18th - Halifax, Nova Scotia

FINALS September TBA - Moncton, New Brunswick

Although it will be difficult to compete with the big websites such as SCG and CFB for content, anyone willing to submit an article can do so through the Submit Article link. The Forums are active (apologies to anyone who signed up the first time around, I was not able to import the database into this format) and we're hoping they can become an active hub for discussion.

Other than that, the site is live, yet incomplete. There will be many new added features soon, newsposts will follow when they are active. Look for detailed posts on the tournament format, entry fees, point structures and such shortly!

    Mox Sapphire tournament report!

    Prelude:

I have been playing MtG for more years than I can count (and certainly more than I’d like to admit), and as such, Legacy is one of my favorite formats and has been for some time. The combination of nostalgia (since you can play nearly any card ever printed) combined with a wide-open metagame makes for a very enjoyable format.

So when a Legacy tourney was announced at a nearby comic shop for a Mox Sapphire, I was more than ready to sling some Brainstorms and Force of Wills. I built a testing gauntlet and started getting ready...

    Mox Sapphire Moncton Report
Thursday, March 08 @ 09:29:53 EST by admin (242 reads)
Tournament ReportAnonymous writes "Legacy? No way am I playing that... people win on like turn 1, the cards are too expensive, every deck needs Force of Wills and Underground Seas!

Hey everyone, my name is Sheldon McCarthy, or Sheldor McConqr (though I've never conquered anything!), I started playing magic back in Ice Age when I was around 12 years old, I continued til Exodus came out when I stopped. I recently picked magic back up when Scars block came out. I wasn't sure if I wanted to play legacy, so I did what everyone else did, I made Mono-Red Burn! It was cheap, not super complicated, and got there a lot of the time.

That was about six months ago, so you're thinking, “Wow Sheldor, you played Mono-Red Burn at the Mox?”, well no, see I saw on a SCG broadcast someone casting turn 2 Knight of the Reliquary, Stoneforge Mystics, and beating people down with equipment. A light bulb went off in my head, I can play a deck like that, I like attacking with stuff! So off I went to order/trade for the GW Maverick deck.

    Introduction and some shoutouts!
Tuesday, February 21 @ 10:18:49 EST by admin (168 reads)
    General Articlejoshb writes "Hey all,

This whole idea started last October when I took some time off work. For the past few months, there has been money spent, and many hours put into getting everything set up. One goal was to give local magic players a positive experience when they come out to play, such as I had many years ago when I started playing, and to highlight some of the great stores we have in the area. While the money paid out at these events with be a huge motivator, we want people to look for to fun and exciting atmosphere at all the events. In the next few weeks, we will be rolling out all the details of prizes, points system, and any other info concerning the tourney.

    James S

When making this event I knew I wanted to be working with good people...

Josh Breau; Josh is one of my best friends and a person who knows the "vibe" of the local Magic Community. When I talked to him about this idea in October he wanted to be a part of it. He will be taking care of most of the online content. We have no set role for him as of yet, but I'm sure it will contain running online content, writing tournament reports, editing my broken English, being the voice of reason (at times) and a person I trust to go to when looking for advice. If there is a question about the tourneys, Josh will most likely have the answer.

William Buchanan; Ole gravy tears himself. Willy takes a ton of crap from me, but after seeing him run/judge a few events now I have great faith in his abilities. He will be the judge for all of our events. He is not asking for much so make sure to rub his belly next time you see him as thanks.

Matt Bernard; What a pimp! Million thanks to Matt for advice and for spreading the word. If every player had his energy and positive outlook, the magic community would be unstoppable.

The stores involved have all been so great to work with and generous for giving us a day for free!

Remi LeClair; Manager of Comic Hunter in Moncton and savior of the local scene. Remi rebuilt our community from scratch and has continued to bring new players into the game. He will always go the extra step to make sure everyone has a fun time. Go in and Matt and get some dirty Bro love.

Dylan Miller; "Let's have a tourney in your store." ... "Ok." That's pretty much how that went. Dylan is the owner of Lightning Bolt Comics. Of all the easiest to convince that this was a good idea. We can't wait for some Island love in June.

Mike Crossman; The first person I approached about the tourney that I didn't know prior. Could not have been more receptive and was on board with the idea from the start. Love his store (Monster Comics) and the crew that works there is awesome.

Steve Foster; Again a conversation that took minutes. He does a lot for the tournament scene in Halifax and we are happy to be working with him.

Please support these stores and show them your appreciation for their part in making this possible."
